Missions & Computing
The CSE Department at Taylor University is taking initiatives with many different ministries in the missions field, trying to help and encourage within the computer and technology field. The Taylor University Missions Computing Initiative is dedicated to using computing technology in the missions field. Visit the
Missions Computing website
We are working on ways to make various mission initiatives academically valid, because we know students can produce commercial-quality software if they're in the right environment with enough resources. This would give Taylor exposure in new communities and possibly serve as a recruiting tool to encourage our students to work in missions. Here are some of the ministries that our faculty and students have been involved with both recently, and in the past:
- Crescent Project is a ministry whose mission is sharing the Hope with Muslims. They partnered with the department in order to help design and improve a system that allows them to maintain better communication with partners and missionaries
- International Conference on Computing and Missions has been hosted by Taylor's CSE and IT Department where 18 countries were represented by 140 attendees who had the opportunity to learn and experiment with various old and new technologies
- HCJB Radio has partnered with the CSE Department since 2005. CSE students have helped HCJB build and maintain a system designed to keep track of all their partnering ministries and foster new partnerships in order to help spread the gospel. Read more...
- Several CSE students took a Lighthouse trip to Honduras where they provided some Computer Services to the Escuela El Sembrador in Catacamas, Honduras
- Dr. Brandle visited Bingham University, Nigeria and gave several lectures to students on how technology is becoming a significant part of life, encouraging both students and faculty that there are like-minded organizations around the world looking at "Missions for Service"
- WordSurv is a linguistics computer program developed through a partnership between our department and Wycliffe Bible Translators/SIL International designed to aid in the collection and analysis of word lists
