Programming Contest at DePauw
Taylor University Takes 2nd and 3rd Place at the 11th Annual CCSC Mid-West Programming Conference

Students working furiously on the problems.
Early on Friday, September 29th, several students and faculty headed to DePauw University to engage in a competition of the mind. Saturday morning, on September 30th, they began to compete against six other universities, and a total of 13 teams) to see once again how we compare to our academic neighbors. Yet even here, our presence went before us. For the seventh year in a row, Taylor University's software was used to manage the competition.
This contest continued for the duration of three hours with six problems of varying difficulty. With each problem they were given what the program should do, and the choice of three different programming languages to write it in.

Jeremy Erickson and David Kasper working hard on one of the problems.
The students that represented Taylor University made up three teams. Participants in team #1 were Austin Beer, class of '07, and Jeremy Erickson and David Kasper, both class of '09. This team took an extremely close 2nd place to one of the teams from The University of Wisconsin, Parkside.
Taylor University's second team consisted of Mike Fisher, class of '09 and Jesse Denardo, class of '10. They admirably took 3rd place. Taylor University's third team consisted of Seth Bird and David Colgan, class of '10.

Dr. Brandle and Dr. Geisler working behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly.
Taylor University's faculty representatives consisted of Dr. Jonathan Geisler and Dr. Stefan Brandle. Throughout the competition they monitored the software and continued to ensure the best quality of service possible so that the competition would be able to run smoothly and efficiently.
History
This very same team of ours that took 2nd place, has also participated as a group in previous competitions. Last April they claimed first place in a competition of 100 students. Further, the previous year at that same competition we had a team that claimed 2nd place. Those articles can be found here:
