![]() | Computer Engineering and Engineering Physics Programs:Completed ABET Accreditation Visit and Awaiting Final Accreditation Action
Dr. Jonathan Geisler, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering (left) and
Dr. Will Holmes, Assistant Professor of Physics (right) have represented Taylor at ABET workshops during the past four summers
as part of the ABET accreditation process.
The Computer Engineering and Engineering Physics Programs at Taylor were reviewed recently by a team of three engineers during an on-site, in-depth review of Taylor's engineering curriculum. The visit represents a culmination of preparations that is essential for future graduates to graduate from an ABET accredited program. ABET, Inc., historically known as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, is the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. It is a federation of 28 professional and technical societies representing these fields. Among the most respected accreditation organizations in the U.S., ABET has provided leadership and quality assurance in higher education for over 70 years. The visit by the ABET review team came after four years of effort by the Physics Department and the Computer Science and Engineering Department in the accreditation process. Every faculty and staff member of the two departments has committed substantial effort into the process. According to Dr. Tom Jones, Dean of Arts of Sciences, the review team was outstanding in its thorough review of the two engineering programs. "The process has provided invaluable direction to strengthen these already strong programs," said Jones. The findings of the review team will be documented and submitted for consideration by the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission during their next annual meeting in July, 2008. |
